Hiya gang,
Just a quick post today to ask you a question:
When did you last take stock of your mental health journey?
It is so easy to constantly look ahead: what mental health issues you are struggling with, what you can improve on, how to make things better in the future…
But I realised this week quite how important it is to stop from time to time and reflect back on how things have improved. Notice the times you cope better with your mental health than you used to – achievements each day that have become so commonplace that you barely notice them.
I used to agonise about getting onto buses because of my anxiety (lack of control of the situation, cleanliness, toilets etc). Now I get on them without even thinking about it.
It is amazing how far I have come, but I hadn’t noticed this until I stopped and looked around. I was too busy looking ahead at the next challenge.
If you do one thing today, write down something (however little) you have achieved in regards to improving your mental health. Congratulate yourself. Be proud.
By remembering even the little ways things have improved, I remind myself that things can and will get better.
I hope you have this experience too.
RJA xoxo
PS: As ever, I would love to hear your thoughts, and feel free to ask any questions.
